The Linn Exaktbox I combines an eight-channel Exakt digital crossover, Katalyst DAC technology and eight channels of 100 W power amplification, bringing three critical stages of an Exakt loudspeaker system into one integrated component.
Instead of sending a full-range amplified signal through a passive loudspeaker crossover, Exaktbox-I processes the crossover digitally, converts each channel through its Katalyst DAC architecture and provides dedicated amplification for the resulting outputs.
Three stages in one component
Exakt processing, conversion and amplification
Exaktbox-I is much more than a digital crossover.
Its eight-channel architecture combines Exakt crossover processing, digital-to-analogue conversion and power amplification within one chassis.
That makes it particularly useful for compatible Linn systems where multiple loudspeaker drive units need their own precisely processed and amplified signal channels.
Eight-channel Exakt processing
Provides eight independently processed Exakt channels for compatible loudspeaker configurations.
Katalyst DAC
Katalyst digital-to-analogue conversion sits between the Exakt processing stage and integrated amplification.
8 × 100 W amplification
Eight dedicated 100 W amplifier channels are integrated into the Exaktbox-I chassis.
Digital crossover architecture
What does Exaktbox-I actually do?
A conventional passive loudspeaker receives an amplified full-range signal and then divides that signal between its drive units using an internal crossover.
Exakt moves that division earlier into the signal chain.
Exaktbox-I processes the required frequency ranges digitally, creating separate channels for compatible loudspeaker drive units before conversion and amplification.
This allows the crossover, DAC and amplifier stages to operate as one coordinated system rather than as unrelated components.
Eight independent channels
Designed around multi-way loudspeaker systems
Each drive unit or loudspeaker section within a compatible Exakt system can require its own processed and amplified signal.
With eight channels available, Exaktbox-I can support sophisticated multi-way configurations from a single chassis, depending on the particular loudspeaker architecture.
The number of channels required is therefore determined by the loudspeakers rather than simply by the number of speakers in the room.
Digital crossover
Frequency division takes place through Linn Exakt processing rather than relying solely on a passive loudspeaker crossover.
Digital-to-analogue conversion
Katalyst DAC technology converts the individually processed digital channels before amplification.
Integrated power stage
Each of the eight channels has access to its own 100 W amplifier channel within the Exaktbox-I.
Exaktbox-I or Klimax Exaktbox?
Different architectures for different systems
Both models perform Exakt digital crossover processing, but their internal architecture is very different.
Linn Exaktbox-I provides eight channels, Katalyst DAC technology and eight integrated 100 W amplifier channels.
Linn Klimax Exaktbox provides six channels of Exakt crossover processing with Organik DAC technology but does not incorporate the same eight-channel amplification stage.
So this is not simply a question of choosing the more expensive model. The correct Exaktbox depends on the loudspeakers, amplification strategy and required number of channels.
Rococo Systems can design the system architecture before specifying the hardware.
Katalyst conversion
DAC technology built into every channel path
Once Exakt processing has created the individual loudspeaker channels, those digital signals need to be converted before amplification.
Exaktbox-I uses Katalyst DAC technology for this stage, integrating conversion directly into the same chassis as the digital crossover and power amplification.
This creates a tightly integrated path from Exakt processing through conversion and into the amplifier stage.
Integrated amplification
Eight 100 W channels built in
One of the defining differences between Exaktbox-I and other Exaktbox configurations is its built-in amplification.
Eight channels of 100 W amplification allow Exaktbox-I to power compatible loudspeaker channels directly without requiring a separate external amplifier for every processed output.
For the right system, this can dramatically simplify the electronics required to create a multi-channel Exakt configuration.
System-specific by design
Compatibility should be checked before ordering
Exaktbox-I is not a universal amplifier or crossover that should simply be added to any loudspeaker system.
The loudspeakers must be suitable for the intended Exakt architecture, and the required number of crossover and amplifier channels needs to be established before the system is specified.
Rococo Systems can assess your existing Linn equipment and loudspeakers and determine whether Exaktbox-I is appropriate and how it should be configured.
Upgrade potential
Katalyst-equipped Exakt systems can continue to evolve
Existing Exaktbox-I hardware may also have an upgrade route depending on its specification and generation.
A dedicated Katalyst DAC Upgrade for Exaktbox-I is available for appropriate earlier hardware, including compatible Majik Exaktbox-I units.
Before recommending an upgrade, Rococo Systems can identify the current specification and determine the appropriate route.
Rococo Exakt expertise
Designed around the complete loudspeaker system
The value of Exaktbox-I comes from correct system design. Rococo Systems can assess the loudspeakers, calculate the required Exakt channels and configure the electronics as one complete architecture.

The £6,970 price covers one Linn Exaktbox-I. The wider loudspeaker and system configuration required around it depends on the intended Exakt architecture.
Frequently asked questions
How many channels does Linn Exaktbox-I have?
Exaktbox-I provides eight Exakt processing channels.
How powerful is Exaktbox-I?
It incorporates eight channels of 100 W power amplification.
Which DAC does Exaktbox-I use?
It uses Linn Katalyst DAC technology.
Does Exaktbox-I include amplification?
Yes. Unlike Klimax Exaktbox, Exaktbox-I incorporates its own eight-channel power amplifier stage.
What is the difference between Exaktbox-I and Klimax Exaktbox?
Exaktbox-I combines eight-channel Exakt processing, Katalyst DAC technology and 8 × 100 W amplification. Klimax Exaktbox uses six-channel Exakt processing and Organik DAC technology and is designed around a different amplification architecture.
Do I still need separate power amplifiers with Exaktbox-I?
Exaktbox-I already contains eight channels of power amplification. Whether additional amplification is required depends on the complete loudspeaker configuration and number of channels needed.
Can Exaktbox-I work with any loudspeaker?
No. The intended loudspeaker and Exakt configuration should be checked before ordering.
Can older Exaktbox-I units be upgraded?
There is a dedicated Katalyst DAC upgrade for compatible Exaktbox-I hardware, including Majik Exaktbox-I. The existing unit should be checked before an upgrade is specified.
Can Rococo Systems configure Exaktbox-I?
Yes. Rococo Systems can assess the loudspeakers and existing electronics, design the required Exakt architecture and install and configure the system.
